Movie Theaters To Ask FCC For Permission To Block Cell Phones

  • No Related Post

Now that nearly every moviegoer has a cell phone, things can be a bit disturbing with various people on their phone during a movie. While most understand that this is rude, others pull a 2 Pac and thug-for-life it as they chat away to their brotha on their Nokia N90. Joy. Homie may be out of luck soon when the National Association of Theater Operators asks the FCC to exempt all movie theaters from “the Communications Act of 1934, section 333, which makes it illegal to interfere with radio communications,” reports ars technica.

If it can get the waiver from the FCC, this would mean that movie theaters can plaster wallpaper all over its walls of various cineplexes that would stop radio waves of all kinds, including those of cellular transmissions, from entering the darkened rooms.

It will be a hard battle for the NATO to fight and it may have to enlist the help of the other NATO in Europe to bring in its big guns against the FCC as the Feds’ communication branch does not look favorably too often on such matters. If the exception is granted, then there may once again be peace and quiet during a movie. Well, except for the screaming babies and kids. :)
