Ever since my IBM Microdrive died at a San Diego Chargers game two years ago, I’ve been very hesitant to replace it. Now that flash drives are in the 1 and 2 GB range, I don’t have too much of a need for movable parts based storage. But dang, for $114 can get you a 4GB Seagate drive. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Now remember, hard drive speeds are much slower then flash and they also drain the battery quicker. But, again, to get 4GB of storage for less then the price of a good 2GB flash drive, this may be more then worth it.
One side note on this. In my day job, I’ve had two Seagate (one IDE and one SATA) die on me this week alone. Years ago, Seagate was second to none, but every company has its up and downs. My favorite drive manufacturer right now is Western Digital but they don’t have such a deal right now. :)
