Get Your RSS Feed to Vibrate You

Hey, I understand how being away from an Internet connection can be tough if it’s for a period exceeding four hours. I’ve been there and the withdrawal ain’t pretty! Yahoo’s got you covered, my friend, ’cause we all have cell phones and hey, as long as you have a signal, you’ll at least have news. RSS news. Yup, yup, Yahoo is offering a new service in which it will deliver your RSS updates to you via SMS. Oh ya, you know Cingular must have delighted in this announcement! Cha-ching! ;)
Russell Beattie loves this idea and has gone nuts with it. He’s letting his phone vibrate him with alerts of new updates even from his own web site! Dude, that’s nuts! Russell posted his excitement and said:
Yahoo! just enabled every blog and news service in the world to update 200 million American mobile consumers instantly. Every feed, from any source online is now a potential mobile alert service, instantly notifying readers, customers and users of any updates, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week anywhere they happen to be.
You can read the rest of Russell’s very in depth article on Yahoo’s new feature but do note, Russell calls this a free service. While Yahoo will send you these updates free of charge on their end, do know nearly every cellular carrier makes easy money off of SMS and you’ll need to check with your provider what your rates are and what your packages include before you go too crazy. Oh ya, don’t forget to RSS me, baby!
