Word, podcast is the word of the year. I was so nervous it wouldn’t win since it was up against such words as ICE (In Case of Emergency, for your cell phone,) IED (improvised explosive device, made famous by insurgents in Iraq,) or IDP (internally displaced person.) Ya, I know, they’re not even words but they were considered to be the word of the year for the New Oxford American Dictionary. Sony almost stole the show with rootkit, but I guess the suits back in Oxford just thought podcast was more hip and went with it. Never mind the fact that a podcast is really just an MP3 and isn’t exclusive to the iPod, but hey, this is Oxford we’re talking about.

Now if your curious, the definition you’ll see in early 2006 on the online dictionary for podcast, it will state, “a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player.”
