Save Your (PDA) Screen From Burn In

Screen savers were a great monitor, well, saver when they first graced our CRT’s back in the late 80’s. I still remember those toasters flying across my screen. I loved those guys! Now with LCD screens becoming cheaper and more popular, there just doesn’t seem to be a reason for screen savers anymore. Sure, you can use them to protect your computer from unauthorized use, but most computers these days have built-in locks that take care of that. So what use do they have then? Mmm, eye candy is about it. I think Handy Entertainment understands that; hence, the reason they have screen savers for the Pocket PC and the Palm. Yes, that’s right kiddies, you can waste that valuable non-volatile RAM space for screen savers! If you do have lots of extra room, I do have to admit that they are cool.

Riverland, one of the many offerings from Handy, is really cool. You get to see people coming and going from the castle perched at the rivers edge. If you so chose, you can even run it in real-time so the suns position in the screen saver is relative to the actual suns position in our sky. So when it goes down in your ‘hood, it goes down in Riverland’s. Kinda cool, huh?

If you’re not into paying for screen savers, especially those that run on a PDA, then you may want to check out The Matrix Screen Saver. It’s free and will put you into a zombie state for sure late at night. Hey, what else better do you have to do at that time anyway?
