Big corporate law suits are always messy and when they end, it usually isn’t pretty. Point in case, today’s ruling on the NTP vs RIM has Research In Motion possibly having to pay out over a billion dollars. Yes, that’s billion. NTP feels that RIM’s super popular service is in violation of one its patents. Because RIM has made hand-over-fist in cash for NTP’s invention, it wants compensation. Of course RIM disagrees, though that didn’t stop them from changing things up back at the camp to make sure other companies patents were not being trampled on. Either way, the saga continues and RIM may have to take a hard killing on the bottom line for a few decades and NTP will enjoy a fat check for Christmas.
