Hitachi Takes Biometrics To The Next Level

Finger and retina recognition is so 2003. Look at “Minority Report” or an episode of “24″ to see that eyes can be plucked out and fingers chopped off to gain access to super-secured information. Only the fear of blood would stop you from getting what you need. Speaking of blood, looks like Hitachi is going with blood’s transporter, veins, to add an extra touch (pun intended) to its new biometric laptop. This may be a better way to secure your Web site viewing habits as when your finger is removed, those veins become, well let’s just say altered. ;)
The FLORA Se210 uses a “finger vein recognition pattern” to verify a person’s identity, said to be one of the fastest and hardest to falsify of the organic certification technologies. The pattern is extracted by exposing an LED light source to a finger that is placed on the sensor, which then diffuses light based on the veins of the user’s finger. The actual vein pattern is stored on a “KeyMobile” USB key, so when a user wants their identity verified, they must match the two patterns.
