One thing I love about the iPod popularity is that I can pretty much buy any accessory for it and not worry about the connector
based on what version I have (post first generation.) Retaining the same connector has led to a plethora of easy to use accessories from the home to the car. So why can’t we have that for our phones, PDAs, and others? The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is asking the same question and it looks like we may finally get unity in the way our gadgets connect.
The Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEAŽ) Technology and Standards’ Mobile Electronics Committee announced the convening of a new working group to develop an industry standard for a common portable device connector. The working group’s purpose is to create an electrical and mechanical specification for a standard docking connector suitable for portable devices that need to be cradled and controlled in both an in-vehicle and in-home environment.
