Verizon Releases New V Cast Phone, But…

Verizon has released another V Cast (broadband capable) phone this week that is feature packed. But there is a big BUT involved here.
Apparently, the Motorola V710 lawsuit didn’t scare Verizon enough to stop crippling Bluetooth, so if OBEX is important to you, then skip getting the Samsung SCH-a970. In classic PR fashion, Verizon’s press release states, “it also supports certain Bluetooth profiles,” excluding the fact that you won’t be able to make file transfers unless you read the fine print at the bottom of the page. But hey, if OBEX ain’t your thing and you don’t mind paying two bux for a ringtone, you’ll enjoy this sweet little phone.
It comes with a 2 megapixel camera that has 2x optical zoom. The unique swivel clamshell allows you to view the screen for self-portraits and gives it that “wow” factor. It also supports video recording and it’s going after Apple and Motorola with its own MP3 player. No DRM! ;) Read Verizon’s site for more details and, oh ya, the bottom line will cost $299.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a ball-and-chain commitment.
