Mozilla Shrinks Down Size for Your PocketPC

Underdog web browser Mozilla has taken large steps in regaining market share for it’s grandfather, Netscape, in the name of Firefox. Many have desired the same alternative for their Pocket PC and now anti-PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer) users can have their cake in the form of a mini-Mozilla.

Minimo just released the latest beta and it’s 75% leaner then the previous version. The beta does require you to do a manual install but with a simple tap of the minimo.exe icon in your PDA, you’ll quickly smile when you see that recognizable ‘Zilla on the start up screen. Features you can ready for are tabbed browsing, download meter in the location bar ala Safari, as well as NPAPI plugin support.

While impressive to have Mo on my Samsung i730, I was a bit disappointed in it’s speed. Viewing various web pages on my Wi-Fi connection, load time was noticeable slower then PIE. Additionally, tapping the tabs or even scrolling the scroll bar up or down came with great hesitation. But this is beta, not gold, so I’m not complaining, just reporting. :) It’s good to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel…
