Is The Back of Your iPod Worth $50?

  • No Related Post

I love my iPod and I pretty much love anything iPod related. If I hear the word ‘iPod’ in a sentence, my ears perk up and my attention is drawn forward. So when I saw this new feature from etchamac, I was very interested by it. Starting their fame with etching words on the back of your iPod, they have now raised the bar (excuse me, Cingular) by etching full out graphics on the back of your iPod. But is it worth the $50?

Think about it, what part of your iPod do you look at most? This isn’t a trick question. Yes, the front. When it’s docked, what do you see? Yes, the front. When it’s on your belt secured by some snazzy case? Yes again, the front. When you have it in your car mount, what do you see? Yup, the front. In the glove compartment? That was a trick question. Nothing. So in all these instances, when do you get to show off that sweet Lockergnome head of Chris to your buddies? When you purposely show them.

So again, is it worth $50 to add a graphic to the back of your iPod? I don’t know, if you’ve got fifty bones to burn, then probably, but since most other useful accessories cost about the same price, I’d have to say most are going to pass on this cool “pimp my iPod” option. While the etching of words is still useful, say for name and address purposes, I just can’t justify the cost of plastering Chris’ mug — or even mine — on the back of an iPod for an Ulysses S. Grant mug on a greenback.

What Do You Think?
