Sony has told PCWorld that they will officially stop producing Palm devices, period. Just days after Brighthand had reported that another Japan only product was coming, PCWorld drops the news that it’s all over. They’ll continue developing PDA’s but through the PlayStation smartphone they co-developed with their cellular phone division, SonyEricsson. “What we are doing here is exactly the same as what we did before [in overseas markets],” Aki Shimazu, a spokesperson for Sony in Tokyo, said. “There won’t be any new Clie PDAs but we are not necessarily exiting the PDA business.”
This news brings an end to Sony’s four years of Palm Powered devices and will surely be one to be well remembered. While not starting off on the best foot with a lackluster high priced offering, it didn’t take long for many to lust over their improved line of Palm PDA’s. Sony’s innovation strongly lived in their offerings and that same innovation will certainly continue to thrive in their new endeavor.
