EarthLink Hopes Wireless Broadband Will Kill the Jack

I remember once having a conversation with my friend about three years ago about wireless data and how it’s speeds would never eclipse wired speeds. While I still stand by that notion, I never thought about it in the sense of broadband. With Wi-Fi and 3G networks, that may all change and the air may be the quickest way for one to get to Lockergnome one day! EarthLink and South Korea’s SK Telecom have come together to bring the next generation of broadband and it won’t require you to be tethered to a wall.
SK Telecom has been utilizing the speed of 3G networks for two years now and Sky Dayton, EarthLink’s founder and director says, “Americans are living in the past.” If that didn’t offend you, he continued on stating, “Utilizing emerging 3G networks and harnessing the explosive growth of Wi-Fi, SK-EarthLink will take the wireless experience in the U.S. to a new level.” My hopes are this new level will be faster then existing DSL or Cable yet at a lower price. Reliability and stability are major issues with current wireless broadband and I hope Sky’s bold statement can be backed up with just as bold technology…that works.
