Your iPod DOES Have Line-in Recording!

Scribbled by Sven L.L. Rafferty

One of my biggest complaints on the iPod is the lack of line-in recording. Ya, you can buy Belkin’s or Griffin’s mic add-on, but that’s a mic. I want LINE-IN. I want to be able to bring my iPod to church and tap into the sound board and get that mornings teaching. I’d like to go to a friends house and record some CDs. I’d like to have that option, Apple! Well apparently, we do.

Seems like there is a hack out there that will allow you to plug in a mic (or even use your head phones) to record via mic mode or just slap in a patch cord and - guess what? - record via line-in. Yup, yup, forget Apple and their stingy 8k mic recordings, you get as high as 96kHz, baby! That’s right, record in a much higher quality in with a mic or line-in with this simple hack. It’s easy and free.

Now two catches (there’s always a catch with a hack, folks.) First, you need to install podzilla (Linux for the iPod.) Second, Apple will probably prevent podzilla from working in their next firmware upgrade much like them killing Real’s hack. So, this may only be a temporary fix unless you don’t upgrade and don’t use iTMS.

Now go out and record, record, and record! You finally can do what you’ve always wanted to do, turn that iPod into a mini-studio. Hey, is that like sTudio mini? ;)

What Do You Think?
