Missed connection for mobiles on Virgin trains

Scotsman.com reports that Virgin Trains has inadvertanly caused cell phone reception problems that make using mobile phones on their trains impossible. All may not be lost though. There is talk about the implementation of signal boosters to see if that can help in someway.

The problem affects Virgin’s diesel-powered Voyager fleet, which operates between Scotland, the Midlands and the south of England, and its newer electric Pendolino trains, which run between Glasgow and London.

The Voyagers were introduced two years ago, and some of them - called Super Voyagers - have the ability to tilt. Both types can run at up to 125mph.

The Pendolinos, which entered service earlier this year, accelerated from 110mph to 125mph and started tilting last month. However, the inaugural southbound service developed a wheel fault only 25 miles south of Glasgow and passengers had to complete their journey on another train.
