A Wish to Get Wireless Devices to Talk to Each Other

While there are some “limited methods” of allowing mobile devices to connect to each other, some scientists have recently come up with a way to allow mobile devices to communicate with each other on a broader scale even if those devices have never “met before”.
Scientists at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) have developed an interoperability platform called Obje that is designed to allow wireless devices to automatically connect and communicate, even if the devices have never been acquainted. The idea behind the technology is the placing of a software-based virtual machine inside each device, so that any two devices running Obje would be able to figure out how to work with one another. Simply put, networks can be formed without pre-loading drivers and software onto the wireless devices. By using mobile code (like Java), one device can “teach” another device how to interoperate.
