Samsung to add payment function to cell phones

Samsung has decided that mobile devices ought to be able to talk to POS (Point of Sale) systems through the use of Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology. I not sure that I dig this too much. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about new POS technology. But this just seems a little too risky to me.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Koninklijke Philips Electronics NV are teaming up to incorporate Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology in future cell-phone models from Samsung, giving users the ability to use their phones to make payments, the companies said Tuesday.

NFC is a short-range wireless technology that can be used for identification and communication. As a communications technology, NFC can allow a cell phone to wirelessly transfer photographs to an NFC-enabled television or computer.
