“Apple Computer Inc. of Cupertino, Calif., said Thursday it is recalling 28,000 rechargeable batteries used in its 15-inch PowerBook G4 because they may overheat.
Apple said the batteries were manufactured by LG Chem Ltd. of South Korea and an internal short can cause the battery cells to overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
Apple said it has received four reports of batteries overheating, though no injuries have been reported.” via NewsFactor
Although I don’t actually own one of these computers, I thought that I’d make everybody aware of the situation. In my personal experience, I’ve never had a laptop that did not heat up when in use for a long time, but I usually ignore it.
When using a laptop, I almost never use it on my lap. It may seem somewhat strange, but I’ve always used my laptops as if they were desktop equivalents. Since I value power a bit more than form factor, weight, or size, I rarley invest in the featherweights, but my backaches in the airport would sure be lessened if I could find something that was nice and powerful, yet light as a bird.
