The purchase of the Acer C110 Travelmate convertible tablet PC last week has
been one of my better buys in recent years. I unpacked the box to discover
plugs that will fit any socket in any country, decent instructions, and a
spare stylus with extra tips.
The setup was really easy, and within minutes it was taking notes. Well, I was
taking the notes; it was helping. I used it as a tablet for most of a full day on battery before it needed power. I was able to leave it on snooze while participating in
workgroup activities and quickly wake it up to make notes of what we
achieved. Whilst listening to presentations, I scribbled away, turning over
sheets of hard copy with the other hand. When I got home I converted the
whole lot to a text file, and found very few errors - the tablet had soon
learned to recognise my scrawl (which is no mean feat when you see my
handwriting - it’s gross). A friend borrowed it at night to take minutes at
a meeting and it struggled to recognise her script; I get the feeling it
knows who owns it. A tablet with a brain! Heh, heh. It obviously knows where
its next charge is coming from…
Thanks to Richard Kranseis - his new eBook has inspired me to get organised
and try pivot tables. Pivot tables on a pivot screen… a whole new learning curve awaits. The C110’s (aka my baby)’s next job is
to see if spreadsheets can be manipulated as easily using the tablet feature… I will keep you posted. [Cyberdoyle]
