WiFi Removal :(

Wireless hotspots are a fairly new thing to arrive in Canada. Last night, I was at a movie theatre. On my way into the movie, there was a functioning computer with internet. There was a wireless router inside of the box. It was the first WiFi hotspot that I have ever seen in my life. I went over to it, and looked at it. I thought it was pretty cool, and I thought to my self: “Boy, the industry of wireless hotspots is going to skyrocket”. We went into the movie, and enjoyed it.

After the movie there was a guy with a cart, unplugging the hotspot. I went over to him, and asked him what he was up to. He told me they were removing the hotspot, due to a low demand. I find this quite disturbing. I thought that WiFi hotspots would be the next best thing, and I guess I was wrong. I have read all over the news about how WiFi hotspots just aren’t working in some areas. To their credit, I can see why a WiFi hotspot in a movie theatre would be useless. Who goes to a movie theatre to use their PDA, or notebook computer?

All in all, I guess that in some applications, such as airports, malls, coffee shops, etc., WiFi hotspots might be a great idea, but in a movie theatre?

What Do You Think?
