Attention Keyboard Designers/Manufacturers

For various reasons, many of us run multiple computers. Setting them up so you can operate them from one operating position is always a challenge. Where to put the keyboards is the biggest problem. I have the keyboard to the primary computer right in front of me. Keyboards to the other computers can and do end up most anywhere. I envision a great solution to this problem, but I don’t think the manufacturers have made the keyboard that would do it yet.
So keyboard manufacturers, here’s your challenge. Build me a 4 or 5 channel wireless keyboard with 4 or 5 usb receivers for it. This keyboard will have an extra key on it to switch between the usb receivers. It should also have colored led’s on it to indicate what computer it is connected to. Don’t forget rechargeable batteries.

Why is a KVM switch not adequate?

So very true.
I build and repair pc’s and so often i am surrounded by keyboards and screens, i should really invest in some sort of T switch and just use one screen really.
Keyboards are always a pain as you say, finding a place to put them, then finding a PC has a problem, so have to start moving things about, then re- setting everything back up again.
A USB keyboard that i could switch between pc’s would be so useful.
In fact a place i worked at a couple of years ago had a computer center, where one guy (during the night) was left to monitor various systems, for various companies. I stayed late one night and chatted to the guy, he said how annoying it was, have 30+ monitors & keyboards to jump between throughout the night.
I am sure he would love a keyboard as you mentioned.

I use Synergy with two computers in front of me, “networked” by a cross-over cable. “Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It’s intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).” http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/
My main XP PC has two monitors and the older machine (running 98SE) has one, but I still get a seamless transition over all three screens with the mouse cursor. The program also supports copy and paste from one PC to the other. I have suggested that drag and drop for files would also be nice! It does take a bit of setting up, as you have to specify the positional relationship of the screens to each other, but that sounds like a reasonable thing to have to do for such a program, to me.

Use VNC instead. You can get the window to auto-scale if needed. You can also connect to more that one at once. I would be lost without it, or tied in knots with all the wires.
A KVM switch is nice but adds more clutter to your desk. You also have to route all those cables as well. With VNC the machines can be anywhere on this planet - NO WIRES to mess about with.
You may miss the ‘mission control’ look of a desk over burdened with monitors, mice and keyboards but believe me, it’s so much nicer to have the space. Once you adjust you will wonder why you never used it before.
Copy and Paste also works well if needed.

oracle, KVM’s tend to be made for wired keyboard, not wireless ones.
