In honor of the US Government. OpenTax for US and some State Taxes

I bring this to your attention, not because I think you should consider using this Open Source Tax Solver but because I just find it very interesting that while the US government wants our money, these guys are solving the equations according to the forms that the government publishes. This app will also provide tax calculations for the following states : California, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, New York, and Massachusetts. The GUI is primitive compared to TurboTax, or H&R Block Tango, but at least you can investigate this system for free. While I had to pay $70 to H&R Block for the privilege of trying out their Tango website only to find out that they have no way of inputting some special form called a 1099-C for a debt that was forgiven to my deceased wife. So I spent 2 weekends inputting the information, only to be told last night that I can not complete the process, because there is no provision for this special form of income !!!

So instead of making the same mistake, I went to the TurboTax web site , and asked their support whether their system could handle this special form. Fortunately for me, TurboTax does document that they handle this 1099-C form right on their website, but I e-mailed their support for confirmation any way.
