With this library you can clip all you want. Public Domain Clip Art

I came across this library, and it keeps getting updated, so I thought I would bring this library of public domain clip art to everyone’s attention. The wpClipArt web site is located here. The maintainer of this library is quite adept and has made a great deal of effort in making everything safe for children. There is even the option of downloading the entire library onto your local system, but the Windows Installer and clip art are a whopping 468 MegaBytes, so you will most likely need to let the download proceed over night. The web based gallery is quite nice to use.

If you want to create something similar with your own photos, but don’t want to make them public domain, then you can use this little java application that supports using webstart or being used as a jar file. This jBum is located here, and “takes a directory of images and turns them into a page of HTML. It generates thumbnails and supports rotating, reordering, captioning, spellchecking, and styling.” Now in Windows we can use the explorer and select the thumbnail view to create a thumbs.db file that is viewed by the windows explorer, but this is defintely not cross platform, so if someone in your family is Macified, or using Linux then this process is a much better option. I place the images, on a hard disk of a FreeNAS Server, and run jBum there to create a web browser page for the images as well. So my children using their computers can use whatever they like to view the images, and I can use my Windows, or Linux system to browse through the images we have taken on our trip. Of course there is the occasional warping of images and then printing. Sometimes the older boys can be little hard on the girls pictures. I try and try to settle everything, but being a man I am not nearly as sensitive as my daughters.
