We don’t need no stinkin’ fonts…

Yes, fonts. Those fun little ways of looking at the characters on your screen(s). As you may know, I am working on switching over to Ubuntu from Windows. (Yes, really. Trust me, okay?) Anyway, I have been having problems with how my fonts look when I am in the Ubuntu Forums. Everything else looks good, but the characters in the text area look sorta “rough” and “skinny.” Sorry, best words that I can use. Typing this shows up as “strong” “solid” characters on the screen. Thus the problem - one place is “strong” and another is “rough.” Then again, maybe I am just missing something basic while I am running around like a nutcase. That’s likely. Heh.

Still, I have found that, barring a couple of niggling problems, Ubuntu is the way I am headed. I refuse to spend the amount of money demanded by Microsoft for its software. $90.00 for XP Home I can agree with; the prices being asked for Vista are nothing less than highway robbery. Maybe some people think that those prices are reasonable and I have no problem with that - just so long as they remember that I have a different opinion. And my opinion is that Microsoft is asking for too much money for not enough return.

All right, I’ll quit while I’m still a little ahead.

Oh! Anyone who is reading this and is thinking of switching to Ubuntu, I cannot stress enough that visiting the Ubuntu Forums  http://ubuntuforums.org/) will be the best thing they can do. I’d still be floundering around if not for some really great people over there!
