Hey! Stop licking my library!
But this is the 21st century, and sometimes convenience wins out over the elation of the senses by the tactile pleasures presented by the physical manifestations of our old literary friends. E-readers are a favorite among many for alleviating backaches caused by carrying too many books, or freeing up space otherwise taken up by a forest’s worth of papery tomes. And Amazon’s Kindle Fire is currently king among e-readers on the market.
Is it just a coincidence that it was named after the very element that’s been most responsible for doing away with books ever since ink was first put to paper and overly critical school districts and other fascist regimes discovered the efficacy of offensive volumes as tinder and… kindling? Book burning has been a favorite pastime of oppressive dictators, despotic tyrants, and other squares throughout human history, so it’s surprising that Amazon didn’t consider this potentially negative association when naming its lineup of e-readers and tablets.
Or did it?
Either way, I’m assuming that you love books and the knowledge contained therein, but choose the convenience afforded by an e-reader like the Kindle Fire to lugging around physical folios for the fun of it. I don’t believe that you’re the sort of person who would burn books on a bonfire as a celebration of willful human ignorance. You are a champion of the Information Age! Go, you!
But one thing that e-readers don’t have over paper books is the power to sit undisturbed for centuries and resume dispensing information as soon as they’re uncovered. E-readers, being electronic (hence the “e”), demand electricity for sustenance in order to operate as intended. And if your e-reader is down for the count, you need to recharge it. Sometimes, this process can seemingly take forever. But did you know that there’s a way of charging Kindle Fire faster than whatever default method you may be using?
Charging Kindle Fire Faster
The Amazon Kindle PowerFast is a nine-watt charger that is designed for charging Kindle Fire faster (as well as other Amazon e-reader and tablet products) than the usual five-watt charger that’s included by default.
This thing can charge Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ in under five hours, Kindle Fire HD 7″ in under four hours, and a Kindle Fire in under three hours. It’ll even charge a Kindle Paperwhite in four hours or less and a Kindle in three hours or less.
Charging Kindle Fire faster (along with the other mentioned devices) with the PowerFast is as easy as connecting it to the black micro USB cable included with Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD and with the white USB cable included with Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle. The adapter’s prongs even fold conveniently for maximum storage while traveling or just sitting on your desk.
Can an old-fashioned paper book do that? I think not!
