Vulcan Phantom Solo Speaker Review
My wife has been ripping it up with QuiBids over the past few weeks. Always coming out way ahead of any money actually spent, she managed to land me a Vulcan Phantom Solo Speaker for my iPhone 4. Truth be told, this solo speaker would likely do better with my wife’s iPad mentioned in the above link. But for the demonstration you’ll be watching in the video below, my iPhone offers more than enough audio contrast to see whether or not its worth the cost, which is the purpose of this Vulcan Phantom Solo Speaker review.
As demonstrated above via my iPhone 4 and a RANDOM video on Hulu Plus, the Vulcan Phantom Solo Speaker uses whatever flat surface you happen to place it on as an amplifying source to get the sound out. In the above video, I demonstrate how when I pick up the speaker unit, the audio noticibly changes for the worse. It almost sounds “tin-like” for lack of a better description. And lastly, I also give a quick demo of what the iPhone 4 speakers sound like using the provided phone speakers instead. The difference is quite noticeable.
Vulcan Phantom Solo Speaker – price vs value
The Vulcan Phantom Solo Speaker provides exactly what it promises – big sound in a small package. I found that the audio distorts when the iPhone 4 was turned up at full volume. This may just be the iPhone itself and not the fault of the speakers, it’s difficult to say for sure. The audio distortion is annoying and leaves me needing adjust the speaker volume some from show to show. The second concern I take issue with is the lack of a real charging cable. I’m apparently supposed to charge the speaker via USB. Seriously? What if I’d like to keep this device charged with something cutting edge like an electrical outlet? Edgy I know, but that’s just the kind of guy that I am.
One key advantage I see with the Vulcan Phantom Solo Speaker is compatibility with notebooks, netbooks, desktop PCs, iOS devices or something running Android. In short, the Vulcan Phantom Solo Speaker works with any device with a 3.5mm jack. Make this connection happen while providing a flat surface and you have a decent little sound system.
