Someone in the community asked me last night what is the best way to download videos from YouTube. The two best methods I’ve come across happen to be browser extensions, one for Chrome and one for Safari. Neither are platform-dependent and both work very well.
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed
For Safari, I would try out the YouTube Video Downloader extension. Simply click the “Download Video” button and download the video in any of the formats the script finds! It’s simple and clean, and works like a charm.
Unfortunately, the Chrome extension which was similar to the Safari one was pulled by the author earlier today. It worked very well, so I’m hopeful that it’s just being updated and will be back soon. In the meantime, you can check out the YouTube Downloader from the ChromeExtensions site.
Firefox has an addon that allows you to download the video as an .FLV file. Several community members chimed in with suggestions such as Keepvid and JDownloader.
How do you snag the videos that you wish to save forever?

There is also a couple different plug-ins for Firefox that work great and can even convert the video to flv or mp4 formats. there is also a plug-in to rip only the audio as mp3
