HD-DVD Preferred Among New High-Def Buyers

According to this article on CEPro, HD-DVD is apparently preferred over Blu-Ray among new High-Definition buyers:

“Nearly one-third of non-HDTV households intend to purchase an HDTV in the next six months, and those who intend to buy are looking more “mainstream,” according to research from The Diffusion Group.

“HDTV intenders” who are also likely to purchase a high-def DVD player in the next six months say that they prefer HD DVD to Blu-ray, 43 percent to 27 percent. The other 30 percent are undecided. “

Even though I don’t own anything HD yet, personally I prefer Blu-ray over HD-DVD. Blu-ray has a lot more studio and hardware support. Last time I checked, from the hardware side, there are only two companies that solely support HD-DVD; this means that everyone else supports both camps. That is Toshiba and Lite-On. Notice I didn’t say Microsoft. That is because the HD-DVD add-on for the XBox 360 is made by Lite-On.

My preference is based on my computer desires. I want the Blue-ray because it stores more on a single layer disc. That makes that my desire to back up huge amounts of data on a single layer and send to many places needing fewer discs give Blue-ray my current preference.

Some said we have a winner: HDD… pure, flat… disk drive. I already have on hdd a lot of HDTV: Discovery’s recordings, also other transmissions, shows, movies. I bought my firsd DVD reader (yes, reader, no burner) for pc two years ago since the data is available more on this format (no DVD player), and my pc+tunner replace any VHS / DVD player / recorder. Also I can play the pc on TV, I usually use just the pc for playback.

About HD-DVD or Blue-Ray, they were intended to hold more data, but to “protect” the Hollywood too. As I understand, this is all for Vista, sorry, was for Vista, since now are driver to buy for any pc, and to play from any os…

My opinon, HDD is the winner! I have from many years now a library of… HDDs, if I need one - just use the external case to contain it and USB it!

I believe a new “format” or “support” will emerge. Like DVD +/- or maybe a new type, without DRM. After all, one important parameter is just pure performance!
