Hacking Smartphone Video Preferences

As someone who only leaves home for conferences, the value of a Pocket PC is marginal. I don’t need all the input functions. I do want all the convenience of accessing information like my contacts and calendar. And I do want the convenience of having my personal info and some forms of digital entertainment in my pocket. Smartphone is my answer to that problem. My Audiovox SMT 5600 is perfect for toting a few songs, listening to podcasts and occasionally bringing along talking-head style video. The screen is small at 220×176, but I’m willing to live with the size because the portability is awesome. What I find annoying is the way Windows Media Player 10 and Windows Media Center Edition automatically convert video for my Smartphone to 160×120 . The screen is already tiny. I don’t want smaller videos. 160×120 happens to be the preset preferred size for video on the phone. Changing the preferences on the phone changes the way WMP10 converts video before transferring it to the phone. Of course, you need to hack the Smartphone Registry to make it work.
