Burning Audio CDs with Windows Media Player

The growing proliferation of subscription music services like Napster To Go and Yahoo Music is creating some confusion for customers wanting to burn CDs from tracks they either purchased or think they purchased rather than merely subscribing for temporary access. In a recent email, I was asked why a CD burned using tracks purchased at Napster would not play in a car stereo. Napster and other services like it do a reasonable job of warning customers who try to burn CDs without the appropriate access and purchased tracks burn just like tracks ripped or copied from a CD under most circumstances, but occasionally things get tricky. When using Windows Media Player to burn a CD, there are a few details to verify in order to make the process work smoothly. If your purchased tracks are turning blank CDs into shiny coasters, read on for more details on burning audio CDs using Windows Media Player.
