Take Control of Audio and Video Downloads

One of the bigger annoyances I find with downloading audio and video from Web sites is the default players always trying to automatically play the files instead of letting me download them to my hard drive. It’s bad enough media players are constantly battling for control of my media, but Windows Media Player, iTunes, Real and their various alternatives all default to immediate playback instead of downloading. Sure you can right-click save target as in most cases, but that’s an extra step we shouldn’t need. Fortunately, Windows allows you to take control of this behavior at the operating system level, defining specific behaviors for how various file types react when you click on a link in your browser. To override the automatic launch of Windows Media Player when you click a video file, for instance, you simply need to change a few settings.
