5 Tips for Buying an HDTV

One of the more frequent questions I receive boils down to, ‘Which HDTV should I buy? DLP? Plasma? LCD? CRT?’ My response every time is, ‘That depends.’ Much of the HDTV shopping process is subjective to personal preference and budget. I personally lean toward DLP front projectors because I want the movie theater experience, but that isn’t the right answer for everyone. It isn’t even the right answer for the house I currently live in. A front projector requires the room where you watch television to be darker than is normally required for what we think of as a televsion (HD or otherwise). There are a number of commonalities to look for in any HDTV. Several gotchas need your attention when making the decision. Rather than attempting to say you must buy screen X from brand Y to be happy, I’ve prepared a list of 5 steps to making a smart HDTV buying decision in selecting the right screen for you.
