If you are looking to print images for posters - or any size larger - then you can (and it’s very easy to do)! The Rasterbator is a Web service that creates huge, rasterized images from any picture. The rasterized images can be printed and assembled into extremely cool-looking posters up to 20 meters in size. If you looking to turn a picture (that you have the rights to, of course) into a large picture, then this service is free and great to use. Just head over to The Rasterbator site for more information.
From The Alistairbator: With the last day of college coming up, we were giving strict warnings not to physically damage or do anything bad to the school. Over the past few weeks I had Rasterbated several small images, about 3×3 of people in my year, and put them on the common room wall. Most people thought they were great, and that’s when I had the idea of creating a HUGE image. I got a few people together and told them about the Rasterbator - and we decided that we would do an image of a guy called Alistair in our year who is the second head boy in charge. They told me to create a huge one, but none of them realised how big it would go. I went to the library and entered the image and made it as big as possible - which ended up as 352 pages. It took ages to print, and the doubt the librarian was happy when she found out! I then got together a group of about seven people and together we spent four hours sticking it together - and then backing it on backing paper.
