How far away should my HDTV screen be?

Before you buy that HDTV you’ve been drooling over at the electronics store, it’s a good idea to consider how much screen will actually fit in the space you want to watch it. 65 or 70 inches may sound like the perfect screen size, but what if the distance between the screen and your peepers is only six feet. You can be too close to the TV screen and not because of the radiation your parents may have warned you about. How close is too close? What’s the optimal viewing distance?
