Yahoo Buys MusicMatch

With the launch of MSN’s music store and the inclusion of most major download sites in the latest version of Windows Media Player, it was only a matter of time before other Internet heavyweights started making a land grab in what is surely the most hotly contended for-pay content business on the Internet. Yahoo’s purchase of MusicMatch is hot on the heels of recently announced plans for a series of consumer electronics devices, so they may be going for an end-to-end solution like the iTunes/iPod experience. What stockholders of the remaining music services should be anticipating is which music service will Google buy? After purchasing Picasa, music is certainly a next logical step. Maybe that’s Rob Glaser’s exit strategy?
