XP SP2 and Movie Maker 2.1

Windows XP SP2 is now rolling out…. installing it yesterday on my main working computer, a Toshiba laptop, went perfectly. Now I have Movie Maker 2.1. What’s changed? Two main items, one visible and one not.
The visible change is the addition of a third tab in Options window, a list of installed codecs/filters on the computer and the ability to toggle them on or off for Movie Maker use….. the neat thing is that it doesn’t disable the item’s use by other software.
The invisible change is the addition of support for ‘pass-through’. Now you can connect your analog source (VCR, analog camcorder, etc.) to your digital camcorder, pull the tape from the digital camcorder and connect it to your computer. Then, in Movie Maker 2.1 capture the video that’s playing in the analog device…..painlessley converted to digital by the digital camcorder.
There’s a new page at www.papajohn.org that provides the details about the new version. Use the menu and go to Setup > MM2.1
The new version will be covered in depth in my next weekly newsletter on Friday.
