Windows Media wmp.dll Error Fix

Via Kashif Khan:

“A lot of people stumble upon my blog due to a variety of reasons – one of them being the search engine query regarding the Windows Media Player’s wmp.dll, which gets confused as to which version number of the program it is actually running. The error message is the following and is encountered when a person just launches the player:

‘The file wmp.dll has a version number of 9.0.0.2980 where 9.0.0.3008 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the Player from the Microsoft Web site?’

“My Solution: do not click on the reinstallation option, since you will encounter the same message upon restart. The trick to solve the problem is available at “Fix 822964 – Windows Media Player 9 Series Downloads Radio Preset Information.” By downloading the file at the fix center, the player is upgraded to a higher version and also fixes the wmp.dll file in the process.

“This will definitely save you from the frustation that I faced while trying to find a solution to this headache.”

I don’t understand how to fix this thing.
    Here’s the message I get:

“The file wmp.dll has a version number of 10.0.0.3646 where 11.0.5721.5230 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the Player from he Microsoft Web site?”

Is there any way to solve it?
Please write it down in a way I understand.
    Thank you.
