Back from the New Year celebration, I thought we might look at growing your business offerings, rather than rehashing the desired growth of your client base with advertising. And so today, I bring you two very stellar examples of thinking outside of the box.
Repairing iPods, Zunes, etc.
You might think there is no money in repairing iPods, but as it turns out, people are doing it. Known in my previous home town as Blair’s Repair, this guy can do just about anything with an iPod - even fix them. How is he marketing himself? Word of mouth and Craigslist appear to be his primary sources for new clients right now.

Repairing laptops / notebooks.
If there is one area where there are not enough people doing enough, it has to be laptop repair. Some argue that it is as profitable as TV repair (sarcasm). However I see the ads for this guy EVERYWHERE. What’s even more interesting is that most of the ads I see with the site listed are PPC (pay per click). This means he has an audience and he is making money. On a local front, you could do very well here.

Considerations.
Screwing up an iPod is one thing whereas ruining a laptop/notebook is something completely different. I would do my homework on the notebook repair, however the iPod repair could be something you could teach yourself fairly easily, given the right amount of time and patience.
For those of you who simply do not feel comfortable in taking either apart, consider loading music onto portable devices for a living. Impossible? Not if you live in a big city like NY!
