Think I’ll give it a go again with Linux

  • No Related Post

Well I’ve decided I’ll give Linux a go again. I hate giving up on things and that is how I feel about my experience with Linux. Now that I have a computer with a little more horsepower and an extra hard drive I’ll give the dual boot option a try. That way I can keep XP to do my day to day activities with but at the same time experiment with Linux. I’ve booted with the live distro a couple of times now and Ubuntu runs very quick on the new machine. I also discovered that the motherboard on my new computer will allow me to boot to an external hard drive so that is an option also. Not sure how that will affect overall performance versus another internal drive but what the heck. Any suggestions or comments about doing that would be greatly appreciated.

Linux Mint - try this over Ubuntu, trust me on this. :)

PCLinuxOS Easiest distro I have tried. Works out of the box.

You said “more horsepower” but didn’t say how much. Even so, I agree with the other two posts. Linux Mint or PCLinuxOS will probably be fine but if your CPU speed is under a GHz you might be happier with a net install of Debian Etch. It rocks on my 800 MHz Duron. My wife really likes it on her 1.7 GHz Celeron too.
