Still No Free ZoneAlarm Firewall For Windows 7

Despite it being over a month after the launch of Microsoft’s latest operating system, Check Point Software Technologies has not yet released the free version of their very good ZoneAlarm firewall that is compatible with Windows 7. They promised to release it and Windows 7 is MS’s fastest selling OS ever, so what’s the hold up?

The Win7 compatible demo versions of the Extreme Security and the Internet Security Suite are available, so the firewall product is ready. Hmmm…

I suggest complaining here – it’s a form for tech support but I can’t find any complaint or customer service forms…

Not simply to be argumentative (but that might be enough) but who really cares? Comodo and Online Armor are both free, superior in every way, and have the evidence to back it up.

Zone Alarm has always been unnecessarily difficult to use, and obtuse in its settings, Comodo is easily set up, works without incident, and is updated regularly, all without any attempts to harangue the the customer over upgrading to the PAID version.

Early versions of Comodo had a few difficulties, but I have been using it for a solid 2 years without incident on many computers. For gamers, it is ridiculously easy to set up, and they tend to be the hardest to please (my son loves it, and prefers it to my previous favorite Sygate Personal Firewall – it allows him to easily configure for his games and causes few problems for the majority of them).

As long as Comodo remains free, and they don’t make it otherwise FUBAR, I see no reason for anyone to ever pay for a firewall again.

I like the product – that’s why I posted this. It doesn’t ask me to upgrade to a paid version. I used Comodo Internet Security when it was the only firewall available for Windows 7, and it wouldn’t ever shut up. Months after I installed it, I was still telling it to remember a program or process that has asked for internet access – at least the free ZoneAlarm was quiet after a couple of weeks as I’d triggered and told it to remember the requests for internet access coming from my computer. YMMV.
