Apple Drops QuickTime Support For Windows 2000

I’m behind the curve on this as QuickTime 7.2 for Windows was released July 11, 2007 and there’s already been a security update for it. Apple added support for Windows Vista but dropped it for Windows 2000 (the latest version for Win 2K is 7.1.6 - available here and the security update for it is here).
This is the first time I’ve seen a major software publisher drop support for a version of Windows that Microsoft was still supporting. The Apple download centre for earlier software versions is here.

The only reason I have now for upgrading Windows is that Apple (a Microsoft competitor?) does not support the version of Windows that I am using. Is Apple trying to increase Microsoft’s profits? Is there some good reason why it is difficult to run Quicktime on WIn2K?
BTW - thank you very much for the link to the last Windows 2000 compatible version.

I don’t know how to write software - but I do know that a Windows application can be coded to read a Registry key to determine what version of Windows it’s installing on - if it’s the wrong version, the application will throw an error and stop installing. Maybe this is what some dumb programmer at Apple did?
Because I can’t see the reason for ending support on Windows 2000 with Quicktime. When XP first came out, I was installing cable high speed internet service on customers’ computers. Occasionally an XP driver for the network card wasn’t yet available and almost always the Windows 2000 driver would work. This tells me that the architectures of the two operating systems are very similar - and Quicktime would run on Win2K if it were coded properly.

Thank you very much for the WIN2k link for quicktime.
I had to format my PC and was installing the latest and greatest from the net and what do you know no quicktime for win2k.
The same goes for Call of Duty4 you need XP thru Vista to even install it. It won’t even let you TRY to install it just like quicktime.
I mean if I could get it there I’m sure I could tweak it a bit and get it stable.
Oh well someone is marketing Vista and now with Apple using windows they are switching right over to the MS darkside practices.
well THNX again
