Ever needed to know how to replace the motherboard on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000?
If Windows boots:
Boot Windows. Put the Windows CD in the drive and start Setup with the Upgrade option. Follow instructions until the computer reboots.
When it reboots, pull the plug. Replace the motherboard. Restart the computer and complete the installation.
If Windows won’t boot:
Replace the motherboard. Boot from the Windows CD and start a Repair Installation. Complete the installation.
After the installation is complete, install any needed drivers, Service Packs, or updates.
Note that if the computer is running an OEM version of Windows, you will have to buy another Windows license to be in accordance with the license agreement If you do not use the same make and model of motherboard for the replacement.
