Free Prepaid Gas Cards - Mobile Advertising

There is an old saying here in the States, likely also popular in other parts of the world as well.

“There is no such thing as a free lunch.”

And this is said to be true with regard to ever-popular prepaid gas cards being sold from gas stations and local retail outlets. Well that and free gas in general. But now what if I told you that there is indeed, a service that will provide you free prepaid gas cards? Is it a scam? At first I was convinced that it must be. Yet after close investigation, it turned out that you could indeed, receive free prepaid gas cards in exchange for turning your car into a rolling billboard.

The first news story on this matter I came across was from a now dated CBS News piece back in 2006. As it clearly states, if you are willing to work with FreeGashHelp.com and turn your car into a mobile advertising service, you can be reimbursed for your gas up to $200 per month.

With skyrocketing gas prices, this has a lot of people thinking there must be a catch. Well, there is the following to consider:

  • You must qualify and meet the advertising program guidelines.
  • The registration process leaves something to be desired. It reminds me Fuel Bank’s registration process, with the possible exception that users can indeed, actually register.
  • Signing up does not guarantee anything. Even if you are able to sign up successfully, you may still not be presented with an ad campaign. That is largely up to the folks at FreeGasHelp.

So is it worth it? Possibly, but I would argue that looking for gas cards offering rebates are a bit more in a grounded reality.

I’d suggest investigating the following:

  • Look for chain gas station gas credit cards that offer you a decent rebate program. So long as you do not let the interest get the best of you, this can actually be quite helpful.
  • If using a gas credit card for rebates is not something you are interested in, consider seeking out prepaid gas cards and use them to better manage your monthly fuel allowance. Despite not having the same advantage as FuelBank, they can prove very helpful for budgeting. And they also make great rewards and gifts for those looking to give away something that really benefits people.
