Hacking Google Rank - Dirty SEO

Today Mitch discovered something that I would deem as critical. Even though the link now appears to be down (fixed), it seems that some people out there have taken to hacking into people’s open .htaccess files when they are not looking. Who are the fraudsters? Apparently, TheFirefox.net has managed to hack into Mitch’s once writable .htaccess file and then set it to refer search engine crawlers to their website. What makes this all the more tragic is that even though Mitch has fixed the file itself, the results of hacking Google rank may indeed, be a very slow fix.

How to prevent this from happening to you: Straight from Mitch’s own mouth - do not set your .htaccess file as writable for extended periods of time. Because it could really create a serious, potentially long term headache.

What should Mitch do now? First, remove the hyperlink from problem website immediate. After all, no sense in making it worse. Next, I would appeal to his listeners to start a “let’s link to TheWebHostingShow and Firefox Facts drive. This might serve to help drive his own site’s ranking back up slowly, but surely. If enough of us do it, who knows, perhaps we can fix this terrible mistake?
