A Saturday Night With Chris Pirillo And Friends

Well, we had fun last night over at Chris Pirillo Live (or whatever the final name of the product is going to be). If you were lucky enough to be in the chatroom or on the conference call you got to see a “live debug” of an Internet application. What we pulled last night was basically a last minute “release night” shift, and I think it was fun for all geeks involved! Hell, I know I had fun, and I ended up staying up until 5am EST!
I still have some major work to do on the back end, specifically I need to start optimizing some of the AJAX code and I need to start screwing with MagpieRSS to see if I can get it to properly handle enclosures. If anyone has any tips for using MagpieRSS, I would be more than thrilled to listen.
Some notes on the service that I’ve noticed so far:
- Ustream.tv is pretty awesome, but I wish they had an open API and support for multiple feeds through one stream - that would make life on our end much easier.
- Yes, I know about the RSS feeds being read in the wrong type and sometimes showing a blank space. It’s fixed on the dev site.
- The twitter cycler doesn’t show the time the post was made. Need to fix that.
- I know the Java chat is a bit bulky and can really slow things down. I’m playing with an idea over on the dev site that hides the chat client until you want it open (this should also help reduce the join/part spam in the channel significantly).
- Need an FAQ section.
- The IRC bot is almost ready. I need to get off my lazy ass and program the PHP script for the bot to access.
- For some reason, on my computer, the sponsors scroll makes Firefox jump up to 99% CPU use. Don’t know what’s causing that. Maybe Alex can get back to me. What a talented kid.
- I would love to somehow be able to get an RSS feed of the latest chat content. Don’t know if that’s practical or useful at this point.
- I really need to set up a Subversion server for this development, but I’m not sure how a bunch of non-devs would cope with the checkout/in process.
- Should we put the current topic below the video and right above the chat? Hm. No. That would be redundant, considering the IRC chat will have the topic set.
- I wish there was a way to kill the video feed and only get audio. I don’t really pay attention to what’s going on video, but Chris has been using the audio as a method of contact.
- Chris talked about making a web-based admin interface that allows for switching streams on the fly. That’s something we need to talk to the Ustream guys about, though, because anything we could do on this end would be one big ugly hack (and I mean ugly).
- Chris took down the dynamic Adsense code. Did Google disapprove of it? I hope not :(
- We should probably add a link to WyldRyde in the short description.
- The twitters are flying by at an astronomical rate. Need to slow that down.
If you have any notes, comments, questions, or suggestions about Chris Pirillo Live, why not leave a comment? Comments are moderated (so you wont see it immediately), but if it’s not spam I will approve it — positive or negative.

Watching you guys do the “live debug” of the site was cool and I think all of us in the chat room had fun! I think we are all waiting with baited breath now to see what comes next from “Chris Pirillo Live”

Hi Chris
Why don’t you fix LockerGnome?
I’m still getting this on Problem Solvers and several others: (the latest Problem Solvers returned Server Timeout so I couldn’t read the item about this problem)
