Turbo Sport Infrared Stainless Steel Portable Grill

Since I’m living on my own now, I don’t have the luxury of using dad’s big outdoor grill. Sadly, most grills are either out of my budget or are just downright crappy (you know, those horrible hibachi grills that fall apart at the slightest touch). Quite frankly, I’m looking for a portable grill that not only fits my budget but also performs like the “big grill” does.

Well, it turns out I found it.

Barbeques Galore Turbo Sport Infrared Stainless Steel Portable Grill

(That’s a hell of a product name)

The truth is that this portable grill is not as cheap as your Wal*Mart portable grill, coming in at almost $160. But at that price you get a very robust, sturdy grill that can perfectly char the outside of any meat while keeping the inside nice, moist, and full of flavor. Here’s the trick: you need to keep the burner on high (crank it up all the way) for at least 3 minutes. Put your meat on the grill for about 1 minute, flip, keep it on another minute, then turn the burner down to low and let the meat finish to your liking.

OK, so it’s not charcoal. You’re not going to get that nice smoky flavor from the gas burner, but you are going to get perfectly grilled meats.

I used this last night for the first time to cook up a couple of steaks for my buddies and some vegatables (carrots). I would caution you: be careful when cooking dry foods, because this grill will burn them if you’re not careful.

Overall, I’m happy. It’s not charcoal, and it can be a little flaky when controlling the flame, but otherwise this is a very solid, very robust portable grill.
