Long Week Comes To An End

Have you ever had one of those weeks? Those long weeks that involve multiple hours of work, only a few hours of sleep, and not a damn minute of fun? I’ve just finished one of those, and boy oh boy, am I glad to be at home, resting.

Let’s take a look at LordKaT’s week:

  • Started out grocery shopping, nothing too bad.
  • The bus breaks down on the way home. They say there’s not going to be an alternate bus provided. I have 8 bags of groceries in my hands and it’s -8 outside. That was not a fun walk home.
  • I had to get a botox injection in my throat. It’s not as painful as it sounds, but boy there’s a damn near uncontrollable urge to swallow.
  • I find a voice mail: “Jason, [so-and-so] isn’t going to be able to come in today and we need a replacement.”
  • There’s yet another voice mail, this one is two hours later: “Jason, we really need someone to come in.”
  • The last voice mail is from the district manager: “Jason, if you don’t come in today, you’re fired, it’s that simple” (please keep in mind that I was not scheduled to work that day.)
  • So, I go to work, only to find out that I was the only person who would be running the store. The managers were all in a meeting. Oh, I forgot to mention, this was at Hollywood Video, on a Saturday Night.
  • The meeting ends at around 8pm. The District Manager lashes into me about how disgusting the store looks. I attempt to explain to him that as the only person here it was damn near impossible to run the cash register, check in returns, and maintain a clean business environment.
  • The explanation fails and the District Manager writes me up. Fun!
  • That was one night. Not too bad, as I’ve had to deal with worse, but it still sucked. On to other issues: my server died. It went kaput. I don’t know what the hell happened.
  • I spent the majority of the week diagnosing the problem. This is the first time I’ve ever run a rackmount server on my own, and I don’t need this shit. Eventually, I just go for a reinstall of Slackware.
  • To top that off, I’ve had to turn in several VERY overdue projects. I managed to finally help the landlords run Cat5e through the entire building and help set up a wireless network so that the tenants can have free Internet access.
  • And I STILL owe Chris Pirillo work (I’m sorry Chris, it’s just not on the top of my to-do list).

Man, that was a hell of a week. I’m tired, cranky, and hungry. At least I managed to pay the bills.
