Diggers Are A Bit Dumb …

There’s a little article on Digg’s gaming page entitled “USA Legalizes Abandonware.” Both the title, summary, and comments on Digg suggest that, thanks to this law, the entire abandonware scene has somehow been legitimized.

Well, I’m here to tell you that you’re wrong. The recent law in question does not, in any way, legalize the illegal downloading of copyrighted material. What this law does do, however, is all users of software which is no longer supported/sold to circumvent DRM.

And even then the language of the law is very narrow and well-defined.

So, no, you’re not going to be legally downloading Zork free of charge.

Dude, I could write pages on the flaws of digg, mostly because of it’s fickle and ever-changing userbase. I b*tched about old videos on my own blog, see http://www.subwolf.org/v2/archives.php?id=3746 . :)

However, right now for the majority the good outweighs the bad, and since I can’t come up with better ways to do things….

What Do You Think?
