Design And Function - Finding A Balance

After reading this piece about Shuttleworth, I think he hits on some key issues. Yet that aside, the Linux crew needs to realize that the market is there but will not be addressed due to one fundamental flaw. Support.
While hardware/software and other goods are in pretty good shape, the fact of the matter is that no one is offering a viable program whereas local techs running Microsoft enable businesses can supplement their earnings by also including Ubuntu into the mix.
Perhaps the problem is that most home user visits to the Geek Squad and other services are there due to malware. Great for the techs, bad for the customer. So realizing this, it is actually less cost effective for the techs to support Linux as it might mean less pay with less issues coming up. Sure, a bad update or new hardware not working can arise.
But for non-business clients, the biggest issue of all remains malware. It’s a big business, so clearly repair techs have no interest in changing this. And this means yet another hurdle to getting the end user the support they need to try something new with any level of confidence.
