IS HP Playing Both Sides?

First off, I would point out that there is no real surprise that we are seeing HP being so coy on their feature of the Splashtop Linux inclusion with some new laptops. With Microsoft still being such a huge part of their business, it is clear that HP has to walk a very fine line.

And considering HP’s great work on the printer/scanner front, I tend to give them more leeway that I might some of the other companies out there such as Dell who offer Linux hardware, but their commitment is merely to hit a niche for a fast buck.

Still, anytime we see any major PC vendor supporting Linux to any capacity, I suppose it is safe to say this is good progress for the desktop as a whole. Whether or not HP’s Linux commitment will flourish from here however,remains to be seen.
